The Founding
of
Anahata Retreats
During a visionary shamanic experience in 2011, Simon Belcher, founder of Anahata was shown a clear vision of his future location and life’s purpose. A life to be dedicated to bringing healing at his healing centre in Thailand.
A fashion designer living in England at the time, Simon had no idea how or when this prophetic vision would materialize. A series of unexpected course of events quickly found Simon in Koh Samui, Thailand by early 2013. After an initial 5 years managing a successful detox retreat business, during a chance encounter, Simon found the exact location shown to him in that earlier visionary experience and knew immediately the location for his retreat and healing centre. In 2018 Anahata Samui was founded in that exact location.
A visit to Anahata on the shore of the peaceful Lipanoi bay, makes the magical energy of the location obvious. Together with his partner Ann Hamill and their team, Anahata is now on the map as an important destination for wellness and healing.
Simon, resident in Samui is very much involved in the day to day running of the centre where he offers personal healing therapies including Reiki, Thetahealing and Sound Healing.
Why Detox?
Everyday life is Toxic! We are constantly consuming and taking in toxins through the food that we eat, water we drink, the air that we breathe, pharmaceutical medicines, not forgetting the chemicals in our homes, furniture, clothing, cleaning products, personal hygiene and beauty products & general environment…and of course the addictive substances that we love to consume from coffee and alcohol through to recreational drugs. The list is long!!!
Fortunately, we release toxins through natural bodily functions including breathing, perspiration, urination and defecation.
Unfortunately for most people in the modern world, more toxins are taken in than released. This leads to an accumulation of toxins in the body. If the bloodstream and vital organs become toxic we become sick and may even die very quickly. This is called Toxemia. In order to protect itself from this, the body will store the toxins in fat tissue and tumors.
Toxicity and acidity are the underlying causes of most diseases.

What is Detox?
Detoxification or “Detox” is a process whereby the amount of toxins consumed are greatly reduced and the amount released are increased. This allows the body to come back to balance. Excess fat tissues released along with the need for tumors. Many common diseases will eventually heal through the process of detoxification.
Regular intake of freshly prepared RAW fruit and vegetable juices and food throughout your detox will quickly neutralize acidity within the body.
At Anahata we offer 3 simple approaches to detox:
-
Juice cleansing – a period of 5+ days of fresh juices supplemented by natural herbs
-
Raw food cleansing – a period of 3+ days of fresh juices and a diet of salads and raw fruits supplemented by natural herbs
-
Intermittent fasting – a period of 7+ days during which a daily juice fast of 18 hours is broken by a delicious raw food meal all supplemented by natural herbs.
What is Fasting?
Fasting means not eating solid food. This may be done safely for short periods of a day or less through to an extended fast of several days, even weeks.
Within 48 hours of fasting the body enters a state of fat burn and natural healing. The digestive system shuts down which means that the energy usually used for digestion may be used to repair and heal the body. Fasting is the quickest and most effective way to detoxify the body. This is why we often lose our appetite when we feel unwell as the body instinctively knows what is needed for healing.
At Anahata we have supported thousands of people over a period of nearly 10 years in Thailand and internationally to fast. We have witnessed incredible results in customers with conditions including:
obesity
diabetes
high blood pressure
cancer
arthritis
gout
various digestive issues such as IBS and Crones disease
migraine
to name but a few….
Whatever a persons’ age or health condition, he/she will benefit from fasting, whether as part of a healing protocol or to maintain good health and prevent future health degeneration.
Fasting and Detox are key to maintaining a youthful appearance, physical and mental flexibility and longevity.
Regular intake of freshly prepared RAW fruit and vegetable juices and food throughout your detox will quickly neutralize acidity within the body.

What is a Pre-Cleanse?
Pre-cleansing refers to a period prior to commencing the detox during which we gradually prepare the body for the detox.
A good pre-cleanse insures an easier fast, and will prepare your body for the full fasting program. If the body has been on a good pre-cleansing program, the first few days of your detox will be much easier, as the body will have gradually been prepared. This will increase the effectiveness of the cleanse. If we do not pre-cleanse we are more likely to experience a healing crisis during the detox as the body becomes overwhelmed with the release of toxins that it has been storing. By pre-cleansing, a more gradual transition into the full detox experience is likely to make this a more gentle and effective experience.
A pre-cleanse diet changes the body’s PH from acid to alkaline. While cleansing, it is the high acidity levels in the body that are responsible for symptoms such as headache, nausea, and aches in joints.
Why Pre-Cleanse?
Several of our programs include a short pre-cleanse period during which you will enjoy a menu of raw foods and freshly prepared juices. Regardless of the program that you choose, we recommend that you observe the following simple guide in preparation for your stay at Anahata.
For at least 1 week prior to your arrival avoid all acid forming foods and maximise your intake of alkalising foods.
Acid Forming Foods:
Animal foods – meat, eggs, dairy – processed and refined foods, yeast products, fermented foods, grains, artificial-sweeteners, some fruit, and sugars are acidifying, as are alcohol, coffee, chocolate, black tea, and sodas.
Alkalising Foods:
Fruit and vegetables - tomato, and bell pepper. Watermelons, mangoes, papayas, dates, figs, melons, grapes, kiwi, apples, pears, grapefruit and raisins. Sprouted seeds, nuts, and some grains like millet, buckwheat, and spelt.
Raw foods are more alkalising, while cooked food is more acidifying. The body needs to have a pH neutral range in order to function properly.
Constant consumption of high acidic food and drinks will in time damage your health in general.
Foods to avoid during your pre-cleanse:
Meat and all animal proteins, including eggs
Bread & complex carbohydrates such as pasta
Dairy (with the exception of live yogurt)
White sugar & white flour
Carbonated drinks, caffeinated tea & coffee
Heavy or rich food / fried or processed foods
Alcohol, drugs, cigarettes
Drinking a minimum of 3 to 4 litres of good quality filtered or mineral water each day before your fast is a powerful way to begin the flushing process in the body.
If you are traveling by air to visit us then prepare for your flight by packing some snacks to take on board such as fresh fruit, raw nuts and dried fruits, muesli and granola bars. We strongly recommend that you do not eat the food provided on the plane with the exception of raw fruit if available.
